Winona Ryder is the professionally-known name given to Winona Laura Hoowitz, who was born within Winona Minnesota. The name of her parents was derived from her hometown. Her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder, who considers herself Jewish has a connection to Ryder's Jewish father. Uria Ryder is her younger brother. Jubal, Sunyata and Sunyata are her half-siblings. Ryder along with her whole family relocated to Mendocino, California, when Ryder was only seven years old. There, they didn't have electricity. Ryder who read a lot aged 12 years old, became a reader because Ryder did not have access to television. When she turned twelve, Ryder joined the American Conservatory Theatre to take acting classes.
