Also, she provided backing vocals to Jermaine and Lou Rawls. Her first gig was as a vocalist in the band Material. the funk group from New York, Material as well. It was her excellence of her singing in the band that caught the attention of the major record labels including Arista who signed her in 1983, and with whom she was for the rest of her professional career. Whitney Houston, her debut album, released in 1985 was the highest-selling album for a debut singer. The album won her first six Grammy Awards. The Whitney sequel in 1987, featuring the singles What Do Broken Hearts GO and I Wanna Dance With Somebody helped to expand on the popularity of her first album. But it was the 1992 film The Bodyguard that solidified her standing as one of the most well-known artists. While her movie performance as well as its soundtrack weren't well-received, the Dolly Parton cover I Will Always Love You and The Bodyguard album that accompanied it topped charts around the globe for several months. That same year she got married to Bobby Brown who was a previous New Edition singer. She was the sole daughter of Bobby and Bobbi Kristina Brown together in the month of March, 1993.
