Jeanie Marie Buss has been an American businesswoman for more than twenty years. The current president is and controlling shareholder of the Los Angeles Lakers National Basketball Association. Buss is a native of California and grew up as an heir to a prestigious family. Jerry Buss was her father. Jerry Buss started out as a realty tycoon, before becoming the owner of the Lakers. The emotional strain she felt was exacerbated as her parents divorced in 1972. At 19 years old she joined the family's business, serving as general manager of the Los Angeles Strings professional tennis team. Then, she established the Los Angeles Blades pro roller hockey team. She served as the president of the Great Western Forum, before being elected Vice president for the Lakers. Buss her father passed away in 2013 which is when the Lakers were acquired by her and five of her siblings through the trust. Each of the siblings had an equal number of votes.
